Is it still worth playing?
A book carries you to Myst, an island with nobody on it, and from it to other Ages, each a small world of its own, built that way because a CD-ROM of the time could not load more. The brothers Rand and Robyn Miller made this 1993 adventure for the Macintosh in HyperCard. You are told almost nothing: there are no goals, enemies, clock or way to die, only places to click through and machines to work out, with the story of the trapped characters and a choice at the end. It helped drive the adoption of the CD-ROM drive. It has been remade several times, from realMyst in 2000 to a 3D version in 2021 where you can walk through the world. An island that explains nothing, with puzzles as its only voice, is still there to wander today.
