Is it still worth playing?

Racing here is about earning credits, buying cars and upgrading them, in this 1996 entry of the Ridge Racer series for the PlayStation. The Grand Prix is split into five classes, and you have three attempts to finish in the top three of each class's events before moving on. Cars from four manufacturers can be bought, each favouring handling, acceleration or speed, with a standard car and a secret one that unlocks at the top class. Finishing the Normal Grand Prix opens the Extra Grand Prix, which repeats the classes on reversed courses. The look is darker and more realistic than before. It introduced Reiko Nagase, who became the series mascot, and the first CGI introduction in the series. Buying and upgrading cars gives the races a long arc to climb.
