You captain a steamship across the Unterzee, an underground ocean beneath Victorian London, in this 2015 exploration role-playing game from Failbetter Games. Your background and ambition are customizable, and you win by achieving the one you choose, such as becoming the most celebrated explorer or earning enough wealth to retire. Resources come from discovering new locations, trading goods, battling ships and sea monsters, and completing story fragments told as cards. Stray too far from the gas lamps of civilization and your crew will grow fearful and lose its sanity. You can upgrade your ship and hire officers with stories of their own. Maps are partly randomized and death is permanent, though a new captain can inherit some of the old one's belongings. A dark sea full of choices still gives each voyage its own story.
