Is it still worth playing?
Simon Henriksson, a nineteen year old with depression, wakes up in a Stockholm alley after being hit by a car, in this 2013 indie survival horror game from Team Psykskallar. It grew out of a Half-Life mod made by the same Swedish team a year earlier. You explore the city in first person, solving puzzles and fighting monsters, and the game switches between normal levels and nightmare levels. Tape recorders act as save points, and the inventory holds only six items, which forces you to decide what to keep. Your choices lead to multiple endings, and the story explores mental illness and trauma. Cinematic pacing, tense sound design and grotesque monsters come with inventory management and exploration. A small inventory still turns every pickup into a choice.
