About this game
CD Projekt Red's 2015 role playing game, in which Geralt is a monster hunter working from a job board. That is the structure, and it is why the writing works. A contract is built like a short story, and what you decide in it changes the state of the world rather than a morality bar. One of those contracts, the Bloody Baron, which nothing flags as special when you take it, runs about four hours and has no clean ending in it. Combat is five signs, alchemy and a sword that blunts as you use it. There are two expansions on top of all that, and the card game inside it was popular enough to be spun out into a game of its own. It is worth the hours because the writing arrives in pieces you can finish in one sitting, and the best of it is not saved for the main story.
