Strategic Studies Group's 1997 strategy game for Windows is the third Warlords, the series' turn based war of heroes and armies on a fantasy map. Spells run on a mana budget for the first time, heroes carry their experience and their items from one game of a campaign into the next, cities level up and pay bonuses in battle, and there are treaties and bribes, with hotseat, email and network play. The expansion Darklords Rising came in 1998 with four campaigns, 15 scenarios, new heroes and units, simultaneous turns and an editor, and the series went real time with Battlecry. The carried heroes still make a campaign whose generals remember the last war.
