Sega owned the Wonder Boy name, but Escape, the studio behind it, kept the game and licensed it to Hudson Soft, which swapped in a hero of its own and sold it on the NES as Adventure Island. One game, two series.
Wonder Boy (1986)
Up to four heroes, alone or with friends, led by one you build or by an origin character with a story only they get. Anyone in the world can be killed, even people a quest needs, and in the turn based fights fire, poison, water and electricity turn the ground into a weapon.
