Is it still worth playing?
A giant phantom keeps appearing to destroy the town of Misthallery, and Professor Layton, his assistant Emmy and a boy named Luke investigate, in this 2009 puzzle adventure for the Nintendo DS. It is a prequel, set three years before the first three games, that shows how Layton met Luke and introduces Emmy. You move around the town by tapping the bottom screen, where tapping anywhere also investigates objects and reveals hint coins, collectible items and hidden puzzles. Puzzles are the backbone of the game, with logic, math, memory, observation and lateral thinking, some needed to move the story along and many optional. Hint coins buy guidance, and the hints never give the answer. A second game, Professor Layton's London Life, is a life sim where you create an avatar. Puzzles you can solve in any order, with hints that nudge without giving the answer, still carry the mystery.
