Is it still worth playing?

In this 1999 platformer for the Neo Geo Pocket Color, Sonic runs through the stage themes of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. The layouts are made for the handheld, with elements from other Sonic games for the Genesis. Sonic Team supervised its production. A save feature lets you replay any level you have completed, a time trial mode ranks how fast you finish each level, and a second time trial counts only runs with 50 or more rings. With a link cable, two players can race each other to finish the stage or race to collect a target number of rings, and the second player controls Tails. A puzzle mode has you assemble portraits of Sonic characters from pieces hidden in the levels, and finishing it unlocks a sound test. Sega developed it and SNK published it, with a United States release in December 1999. Layouts built for the handheld and the extra modes still give it things to do.
