Is it still worth playing?
Ten years after Streets of Rage 3, Axel, Blaze and three more fighters take back Wood Oak City from the Y Twins, the children of Mr. X, in this 2020 side scrolling beat 'em up. Up to four play together on one console, or two online, against waves of enemies, with weapons to pick up. Special moves cost health, which you win back by landing hits without being hit, and enemies can be juggled against walls and each other for long combos and points. Each character also has Star Moves, earned from stars hidden in the levels. The story runs twelve levels, each ending in a boss, over two to three hours on five difficulty settings, and Arcade, Boss Rush and Battle modes come after it. Scoring unlocks twelve characters from the earlier games, in their old pixel style. The fights hold up today because the specials and the combos both pay you for hitting without being hit.
