Peter Parker struggles to manage his personal life and his duties as Spider-Man, two years after the first game, in this 2004 action adventure based on the film Spider-Man 2. When his mentor, the scientist Otto Octavius, becomes the villain Doctor Octopus after an accident, Spider-Man has to stop him from recreating a dangerous fusion power experiment. The game follows the film closely and expands it with scenes and characters that do not appear in it. Treyarch made the console version, a third person action adventure set in an open world based on New York City, with Manhattan, Roosevelt Island, Ellis Island and Liberty Island. The city streams with no load times, and side quests such as bank robberies and police chases earn hero points that buy new moves. Web swinging across an open Manhattan is still the reason to play.
