About this game

Teams of soldiers with jetpacks fight across outdoor maps that stretch for kilometers in this 1998 multiplayer first person shooter, the first game in the Tribes series. Set in the 40th century, it has you fight for one of four main tribes in online matches on 40 maps and five modes, capture the flag among them. An expansion called Tribes Extreme, which was to add single player missions and bots, was cancelled. You wear light, medium or heavy armor. Heavier armor absorbs more damage and carries more energy and ammunition, and each kind takes different weapons: only light armor can use the sniper rifle. In the bases, generators power the turrets and stations, so destroying one can shut down a team's defenses. Skiing began as a glitch in the physics: tapping jump at the right moment going downhill builds momentum, and the jetpack at the top of the next hill throws you across the map.
