Is it still worth playing?
This remake of a role playing game for the Nintendo DS follows a boy's life from his birth through childhood, marriage and family. It came out in Japan in 2008 and in English in 2009. Battles are random encounters, and monsters may offer to join your party when it is strong enough. You can also capture and train them, with 40 to collect. It was the first Dragon Quest to recruit monsters this way, an idea later games in the series reused. Koichi Sugiyama composed the score. There are collection missions and minigames, and no animated cutscenes. The story takes about 25 hours, and much of that time goes on random battles. Recruiting monsters that ask to join still gives the long stretches of battles a goal.
