Is it still worth playing?
Zak McKracken is a tabloid reporter who would like to cover real news instead of making it up, and he is haunted by dreams of an alien civilization, of Mars and of a beautiful woman. In 1997, in this 1988 adventure for the Commodore 64 and MS-DOS, with Amiga and Atari ST versions in 1989, the Caponians are dimming humanity's wits with a Mind Bending Machine that hums at sixty hertz, and Zak and three others set out to stop them. The trip goes to places tied to the ancient astronaut theories, Stonehenge and the pyramids among them, and flights cost money, which is limited. It was the second game on the SCUMM engine after Maniac Mansion. It began as a serious game in the Indiana Jones vein, and Ron Gilbert pushed David Fox towards the jokes. Fans wrote their own sequels. It is still an adventure played as a team, with the world's oddest places to send them.
