About this game

Square's 2001 game, the series' first on the PlayStation 2 and the first with voices in it. Battles dropped the running clock the earlier ones used and became properly turn based, with a timeline down the side showing whose turn is next, and what you choose moves everyone's place in it. Anyone on the bench can be swapped in at any point in a fight, so the whole party is in a battle even when only three are standing in it. Progress runs on the Sphere Grid, a board everybody walks around: a character starts beside the nodes that suit them and can be walked into somebody else's part of it later. Limit Breaks are Overdrives here and want a button input to land properly. You can see what an action will cost you before you commit to it, so a fight is a plan rather than a reflex.
