About this game

Nintendo's 1988 NES platformer, and the one that gave Mario a wardrobe. The raccoon leaf and the tanooki suit let him fly, the frog suit makes him fast in water, the hammer suit gives him a shell and something to throw. Eight kingdoms, each with a map you walk across rather than a list of levels, with branching paths, mushroom houses and enemies that move around on it while you do. Items you win go into a reserve you can open from that map, so you choose what to arrive with, which is a small thing that changes how you approach a hard level. Flying, swimming and throwing are different ways through a level rather than upgrades of the same one.
